The Top of the line five string basses Made by KAY were "S-51" "S-58" and "S-59". Identical in Construction and Choice of woods. Color was the only difference in the model numbers, Ebony wood fingerboard comes standard on these models. Carved scrolls were used on the most expensive basses. The S-59 basses were blond with S-51 basses being brown toned. S-58 basses were honey colored.

Chubby Jackson, A well known jazz bassist, endorsed Kay bass for Kay Musical Instrument Company from about 1946 until 1969. The S-51 model Kay was advertised as the "Chubby Jackson Models. "

The Serial Number on this item is 6235, It was made in 1939 before the time period Chubby Jackson Endorsed these wonderful instruments.

Upright KAY 5 String Bass, Great instrument for Jazz Music, Extremely low action for this type of instrument and very nice to play, Solid spruce top that has been custom made for this item. The Neck is also Custom and Made out of Maple wood. Truly A one of A Kind Upright Bass.
